Chelle Barbour is an interdisciplinary visual artist, cultural producer, and independent curator whose practice spans Afro-Surrealist and Afro-Futurist collage, mixed media, writing, and photography. Initially grounded in theatre, her work has evolved into a layered visual language shaped by assemblage, speculative imagination, and cultural memory. Through collage, she reimagines Black identity, myth, history, and futurity, creating works that move between the poetic and the political. Her work offers not simply representation, but revelation: layered visual worlds in which Black life is imagined with complexity, dignity, and cosmic force.

Barbour’s artwork has been presented in solo, group gallery, and museum exhibitions.  Her collage and photographic works are held in the permanent collections of the California African American Museum, the Photographic Archive at the J. Paul Getty Museum, the Wende Museum, the Bank of America Collection, the Richard Seaver Collection, and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), among others. Barbour has also contributed to public and scholarly conversations through panels, symposia, lectures, and workshops at institutions including CAAM, the Wende Museum, LACMA, UC Riverside, Vassar College, and the Harvey B.
